Wyndham City councillors endorsed the Draft Social and Economic Inclusion Framework – 2020-2023 for public exhibition at last week’s ordinary council meeting (6th May) and is calling on the community to provide feedback on the report.
The framework, drafted in late 2019, with input from stakeholders across business, community and government, highlights that in times of economic growth and development there also lies inequality and disadvantage.
Council’s Future Focused Economy portfolio holder, Walter Villagonzalo, said that as the Wyndham economy recovered and continued to grow, business and job opportunities must be equally accessible for all residents.
“This Framework outlines the work Wyndham City Council is undertaking to ensure that local people receive the benefit of this economic growth and development, which means addressing inequality, and facilitating better links between business and community and planning for social and economic inclusion in an integrated way,” Cr Villagonzalo said.
“Introducing this Social and Economic Inclusion Framework is a first step in paving the way for a new era of inclusive economic growth over the short-term, to 2040 and beyond.”
“We are calling on the community to help us in providing a clear and collaborative direction for a more inclusive social and economic future.”
“Working to create local jobs for local people and stronger tighter-knit communities aids Wyndham’s recovery from the impacts of COVID-19 and a more sustainable and resilient community over the longer-term.”
“Alongside the framework, Council developed employment pathways that help place 100 Wyndham residents in jobs, and once restrictions ease, we plan to continue our work in this area.”
