It’s time to say a big thank you to those that give but ask for nothing in return.
Wyndham City is celebrating National Volunteer Week, which runs between 18- 24 May, by putting a spotlight on volunteers through a series of profiles on the Wyndham Together website, which will also run across the Wyndham City Living Facebook page.
In addition, Wyndham residents will be encouraged to participate in a social media campaign to send in pictures showing their support for volunteers. This will be developed into a social media collage and promoted at the end of National Volunteer Week.
All Council volunteers will also receive a certificate from the Mayor in recognition of their efforts.
Wyndham City’s Family Friendly portfolio holder Cr Mia Shaw said now more than ever, it is important to recognize and celebrate Wyndham volunteers and the profound impact they have on so many in our community.
Cr Shaw will personally thank volunteers in a video message online next week.
“Volunteers are the lifeblood of our community,” Cr Shaw said.
“This theme of this year’s National Volunteer Week is ‘Changing Communities. Changing Lives’, and this is exactly the difference our volunteers make across the Wyndham community every single day.”
“About 22,600 Wyndham residents volunteer their time to serve others, including about 200 Wyndham City volunteers who help with everything from delivering meals to residents in need, to researching our local history.”
“This amounts to more than $100 million in unpaid work to the Wyndham community each year.”
“These people selflessly give their time to help others in the community – while juggling their own families, jobs and other responsibilities – and for this I thank them.”
Last year, Council endorsed a five-year Volunteering Strategy aimed at increasing the number of opportunities for residents to volunteer in ways that suit them.
