Residents are being encouraged to have their say on a five-year plan that maps out the future of one of Wyndham’s greatest assets – the coast.
Environment and Sustainability Portfolio Holder, Cr Heather Marcus, said the Draft Coastal and Marine Management Plan was developed in consultation with the community, and encouraged residents to provide their feedback on the draft document.
“We asked residents and visitors what they love most about the coast, what they use most, and what they would like to see,” Cr Marcus said.
“We received a lot of feedback, which has helped to shape this draft plan. We’re now asking you to read what we have put together and provide further feedback.”
Cr Marcus said the draft plan focused on four key themes.
“Firstly, it’s about protecting what is unique – ensuring protection and recognition of the coast’s unique habitat, agricultural, historic, marine sanctuary, indigenous and volcanic landscape values,” Cr Marcus said.
“It’s also focused on good planning, by developing an integrated planning framework, strategic partnerships and State Government advocacy priorities to facilitate future sustainable land use and development along the coast.”
“Another key theme is ensuring that coastal developments protect against adverse environmental impacts, responds to anticipated sea level rises, activates key activity areas, and facilitates community and tourism access to our coastline.”
“And finally, it’s about improving connectivity and coastal access to natural places for all people to enjoy.”
The Draft Coastal and Marine Management Plan is open for public feedback until Monday 17th February, 2020. To read the document and provide feedback visit www.theloop.wyndham.vic.gov.au/coastal-management-plan
