Eyouth Students Graduate

New graduates and former participants of Wyndham City’s EYouth project will come together this month to celebrate their achievements as this two-year program draws to a close.

The free program is made up of students working towards a certificate and young people in voluntary leadership, mentoring and marketing roles.

The project was developed to empower young people in Wyndham with skills in digital media, communication and leadership.

It also creates pathways to tertiary education and employment, community participation and improved health and wellbeing.

Learning City portfolio holder and Wyndham City Mayor, Cr Josh Gilligan, said as a result of the project more than 50 students have re-engaged with education graduated with a Certificate II in Information, Digital Media and Technology from Victoria University Polytechnic.

“It’s terrific to see the creativity and passion of our young people on show, with students developing skills in leadership, creative arts, media and project management.”

“The program participants have developed workforce ready skills and portfolio of work, building their own websites and podcasts, honing their graphic design, photography and videography skills and even creating their own animations.”

“As a result of this positive experience many participants are now seeking further study in the field.”

“One of the great legacies of this program has been the development of a creative community of young people with different skills and interests sharing knowledge and working together on projects.”

“The participants contributed to major Council events such as the Winter Street Party and the Wyndham Sports Fest: Youth Cup.”

“Another great outcome of the program is that now participants have a greater awareness of the health and wellbeing services available in the community.”

Together with Wyndham City Council and Victoria University Polytechnic (Werribee), the EYouth project was funded by an Empower Grant from the Victorian State Government.
