Wyndham City’s $11 million local roads program is progressing at a cracking pace, with 19 roads resealed in the first quarter of the 2019/20 financial year.
Wyndham City Mayor and Growth and Transport portfolio holder Cr Mia Shaw said Council upgraded the roads in Werribee, Point Cook, Truganina and Hoppers Crossing to ensure they were smooth and safe.
“Improving local roads is one of the key priorities of this year’s Council budget, with Council investing a total of $11 million for road resurfacings and reconstructions,” Cr Shaw said.
“This in addition to our larger-scale road projects, such as the $4 million widening of Hacketts Road.”
“With 64 per cent of Wyndham residents driving to and from work each day, it essential our local roads are regularly assessed and maintained.”
“As residents pull into their neighbourhoods after a busy day, we’re ensuring the last leg of their journey – on local roads – is a pleasant one.”
Cr Shaw said in addition to the resurfacing projects, Council was currently redeveloping Barklya Court, Hilden Close and Melaleuca Drive in Hoppers Crossing and Thames Boulevard, Hepburn Street and Chervil Street in Tarneit.
“These six roads will be significantly improved, with Council digging them up and laying new asphalt to make them sturdier, providing drivers with an improved ride,” Cr Shaw said.
“Furthermore, Thames Boulevard, Hepburn Street and Chervil Street in Tarneit are also having new footpaths installed, to remove cracking and other defects.”
“Construction for these projects is progressing well, with works being undertaken in stages.”
Wyndham City is responsible for upgrading and maintaining neighbourhood roads, while the State Government is responsible for delivering major roads, including highways.
